We need more pictures of your bees and hives and working in your hives to add on our website.  We want people to see new things in case they are tired of seeing the same old stuff so they will keep coming back to our website.  Send me anything,  I'll put it on.

One of our newest members, Terry Beckner, has been called to Afghanistan and will be leaving on November 14.  He's built an amazing solar wax melter that he has offered to the club.  All that's left to be done is sanding and painting!  As you can see from the photos, it's a beauty and you can rest assured it's well built.  Terry's hobby is woodworking.  Besides solar wax melters, Terry's made unbelievably detailed, hand-carved walking stick handles, beautiful canoes and--are you ready?--violins!!!

You can see the solar wax melter at Tia's house if you want an up-close viewing.

Thanks to Terry's generosity, we're raffling it off, proceeds to purchase a much-needed laptop and projector for use at our presentations.  Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 and can be purchased at our meetings on November 9, at the Christmas Party on December 14, or before the drawing at our January 11, 2010 meeting.  Or you can send a check to Tia Douglass, President, CCBA, PO Box 791, Williston NC 28589-0791 and she will mail your tickets to you.

Once again we wish to thank Terry for his generosity, we wish him well and will keep in touch with him during his tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Ten Crystal Coast Beekeeper graduate to New NC State Beekeepers Association Certified Journeyman Class

NC State Beekeepers Association has confirmed that all ten Certified Beekeepers from the Crystal Coast chapter who took the state exam on June 13 have been graduated to Journeyman Level.  The graduates are:  Nancy McNiff, Gerlinde Geier, Gus Dowdy, Earl Gross, Marian Beard, Michael Dean, David Bertram, Suzanne Rutherford, Jennifer Griffin, and Anne D Edwards.  Donna Lynk was graduated to Journeyman and Tia Douglass to Master last year.  Classes to prepare newcomers for the Certified test will begin on July 28.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Crystal Coast Beekeepers Create a Bee Spill Remediation Task Force

Although there’s never been a major bee spill in Carteret County, the Crystal Coast Beekeepers Association felt that what with green awareness and growth in demand for local produce which requires an increase in pollination, it would be good to prepare for such an event.  Twenty-four members of Crystal Coast Beekeepers have volunteered to be on call to clean up a bee spill should one occur in Carteret County.

Lee Simmons, Proprietor of Coastal Equipment Rentals, 1504 Bridges Street, Morehead City, NC 28557, 252-726-0423 has generously agreed to provide us with a bobcat for reloading the boxes on the trailer.

The twenty-four beekeepers who will promptly respond to a call for assistance from EMS or the police are:  David Bertram, Mike Dean, Johnnie Dennis, Tia Douglass, Gus & Mary Dowdy, B.C. Dowty, Jeff Garner, Gerlinde Geier, April Goodman, Annie Gorgone, Jennifer Griffin, Loren Hale, Bruce Kinnaman, Russ Lewis, Dan & Eva McLaughlin, Nancy McNiff, Dwayne Mercer, Steve Murdoch, Frank Roberts, Glenn A Taylor, Scott Taylor and Jarvis Weeks.

Meetings of the Crystal Coast Beekeepers take place every second Monday of the month at 7 pm at the C-MAST Building of the Carteret County Cooperative Extension, 303 College Circle, Morehead City.  Anyone interested in becoming a member or seeking additional information may contact Tia Douglass at 729-5491 or tdouglass@ec.rr.com.
